Asiaten in Firefly

To my English friends: I had the opportunity to write a seminar thesis on one of my favorite TV shows, Firefly, and I decided to take a look at the (seeming) lack of Asians in Joss Whedon’s vision of an American-Chinese future. I am glad to share this paper with you. So if you’re interested, just click the following link.

More than just a flavor: Asians in Firefly

I read your essay and found it to be interesting. I especially liked the middle part where you brought up needing to play the game with executives in order to get it on the air. Sad commentary that that meant not putting in more Asian characters, but still a valid point that they got as many Asian characters on as they did, looking at it in that light.

It’s amazing how much discussion has occurred on this short lived TV series. Did you pull your quotations from the book “Finding Serenity”? BSF just recently read it, but I have not. Anyway, good thesis. I hope you got an A.

Yes, I did get an A. Thanks. And the quotes are from “Finding Serenity”, because that was the only published (i.e. printed) work about that I could find at the time, and from our seminar literature where appropriate.

    Glad you liked it.
